The actress, best-known for her role in Absolutely Fabulous, was rumoured for last year’s series and has now bagged a huge deal to go in the house — but who is she? Funny girl Helen is 62 years old, and while she’s originally from Camarthen, Wales, she grew up in Eltham, London.She studied at the University of Hertfordshire and has a BA in applied social science.Before that she had won a series of small parts in other hit shows, including The Young Ones, One Foot In The Grave and Bottom, after starting work as a stand-up comedian during the 1980s.Helen with Rik Mayall in Bottom She also played a crucial role as a midwife in Hollyoaks’ baby swap plot back in 2013, but the character met her maker in 2015 at the hands of the Gloved Hand Killer terrorising the town.Helen made an appearance on short-lived ITV show, Splash This summer special sees three celebrities set sail across Europe in an effort to kickstart a healthier lifestyle – the five-part series is hosted by presenter and life coach Jeff Brazier.
Helen Lederer joins X Factor winner Sam Bailey and Gogglebox’s Sandi Bogle on the quest for body confidence with the help of an expert team – including Lorraine’s fashion expert Mark Hayes, celebrity fitness trainer Faisal Abedalla and Dr Hilary.Lorraine’s Cruise Control runs daily from Monday 26 June at 8.30am on ITV until Friday 30th June.Helen has a daughter, 27-year-old Echo Beach star Hannah, from her first husband, newspaper editor Roger Alton. No doubt he’ll be tuning into Channel 5’s next Celebrity Big Brother series when it kicks off later this summer.Other of her recent credits include Horrid Henry: The Movie and BBC soap Doctors.In 2015 she released her first novel Losing It, about a miserable magazine agony aunt who is asked to become the face of a new diet pill.She finds it all a bit different and a bit strange that the people are quite traditional.
